Art Literacy is our school’s only structured art program - and the kids absolutely love it!
This “hands on” program teaches kids how to look at and appreciate art from a wide array of artists. Parent volunteers (just like you!) work within a team to share six prepared lessons and art projects for the year. Our PSO generously provides funding for the lessons and project materials.
The highlight of the year is the school-wide Art Lit Gallery in May. For two weeks, our library is transformed with a project from every child in every class. Parents are invited to come see what our talented artists have produced.
Just like math or science, art literacy is a discipline in which skills are built upon with each year. Art Lit enlarges our students’ ability to express themselves through their own artistic creations – and it’s a whole lot of fun, too! No art or teaching background is required to volunteer; so if you’re interested in joining the Art Lit Team, we’d love to hear from you.

Audition, rehearse and perform! The internationally acclaimed touring company Missoula Children’s Theater will cast 60 of our Mary Woodward students. These 60 students, grades K-5 will spend a week of rehearsal refining acting skills and learning new ones. Throughout MCT’s residency week your kids will have fun learning lines, songs and dances. And they’ll learn that if they work hard….if they push themselves….they can create something wonderful. The week will conclude with a full-scale musical production! No advance preparation or experience is required for auditions. Students will be asked to both speak and sing in a group audition. Please contact Lisa Stroud for more information.

The Science Fair is a program designed to encourage students’ interest and experience in science. The committee arranges for an OMSI kick-off assembly usually one month prior to the actual Science Fair. Children of all grades are encouraged to participate at a level appropriate to the individual student. Please contact Tracy Sandford should you like to be involved in the planning or a judge for the event.

The 2010 Jog-A-Thon is Friday, October 7th, 2011. Money raised provides funding for many school activities. This year we challenge each student to collect at least $60 in pledges.
Please help make this year’s Jog-A-Thon a huge success and come cheer on your student as they run, volunteer to help count laps or tally pledge envelopes. We hope to see you there!

PSO participates in two nationwide fundraising programs: General Mill’s Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Labels for Education. These programs offer amazingly easy and almost unlimited opportunities for earning cash or merchandise credits for our school. In 2006-2007, Mary Woodward PSO earned over $1000 through our Box Tops for Education contests.
